Bishop Castle Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)
Heirloom Swiss tomato, productive, flavorful, and disease-resistant, producing attractive clusters of red fruits
The plants of this variety produce many almost round red fruits, weighing 120 to 170 g, in clusters of 3 to 5. Their red, juicy, and flavorful flesh offers a well-balanced taste. Resistant to cracking and diseases, the fruits keep well after harvest. Originating from Switzerland and cultivated in Sissach since 1930 by Walter and Marie Müller-Linder, the variety was brought to British Columbia when they immigrated in 1952. Long grown in greenhouses, it was later passed on to François Lebel by their daughter Christine Wiebe and then included in the Semences du patrimoine catalog. We tested it and were pleasantly surprised. Now it’s your turn to try it! CARE AND OTHER CONSIDERATIONS Gradually acclimate plants to outdoor conditions about 10 days before planting by placing them outside during the day. When planting, lay the plants horizontally, slightly bending them so that the leaves point upward
