The Red fig tomato is a heritage variety originating in Philadelphia, dating back to 1805. They were traditionally dried to preserve them all year round, and eaten as small figs during the winter, hence their name of small figs. They are sweet, pear-shaped and about 1 1/2 inches in size.

Gradually acclimatize to outdoor conditions about 10 days before planting by taking them out during the day. When planting, lay the plants horizontally, arching them slightly to bring out the leaves upwards.

Pretty little flower, similar to the daisy but entirely yellow. It will brighten up your garden with its abundant flowering from the end of June to the end of September. Dyer's chamomile will also delight pollinators. Its main interest, however, lies in the rich dye that can be obtained from it, as its name suggests. The dyers' chamomile makes it possible to naturally dye natural fibers yellow, buff or orange.

With its purple, pink and blue trumpet flowers, sweet fragrance and heart-shaped foliage, morning glories will add a romantic touch to your garden. This climbing plant grows quickly and is therefore ideal for decorating or covering structures such as a pergola. As its name suggests, the flowers prefer to open only when the sun is not too present, especially in the morning. We can therefore see them open in the morning, then closed a few hours later. Morning glories offer abundant flowering from July until the first frosts. Moreover, their magnificent flowers are just as attractive to our eyes as they are to butterflies and hummingbirds.

The first mentions of this heirloom variety of kale date back to 1863. As its name suggests, Blue Curled Scotch has profusely curled leaves with a blue-green hue that form a compact plan. Accustomed to extreme cold, you can pick its leaves until very late in the season. In fact, after a few frosts, its flavor will improve by becoming sweeter.

Plants of this variety bear many red, almost round fruits of 120 to 170 grams in clusters of 3 to 5 fruits. Their red, juicy, tasty flesh is very balanced in taste. Resistant to cracking and disease, the fruits keep very well once picked. Originally from Switzerland and grown in Sissoch since 1930 by Walter and Marie M?ller-Linder, the family took them with them to British Columbia when they immigrated in 1952. They were grown in greenhouses for a long time, then their daughter Christine Wiebe gave seeds to François Lebel, who displayed them in the catalog of the Seeds of Heritage. We tried them and were pleasantly surprised. Try them out yourself!

Boreal vanilla! This very easy to grow plant will add a unique flavor to your desserts. The essence is extracted from the flowers, but the young leaves are eaten in salads, and the seeds can be used as a spice. Its sweet fragrance is reminiscent of tonka bean and vanilla. Honey plant very popular with pollinators. Nitrogen-fixing, which makes it an excellent green manure, very interesting for enriching poor soils.

Beautiful perennial, aromatic and medicinal plant with a bushy habit. Hyssop is used in the composition of the famous ''Herbes de Provence''. Its small shiny green leaves can be used fresh or dried as a condiment. The ideal way to keep them dried is to cut them before flowering. Its delicate flowers form beautiful deep blue spikes which can also be eaten fresh in a salad, or as an infusion. To make the most of their aromas, it is interesting to cut them at the start of flowering. Very melliferous and appreciated by pollinators.

Perennial herb with small leathery green leaves resembling large needles. It produces small pink or white flowers that are very popular with pollinators. The winter savory has a slightly less pronounced taste than the summer savory but supports more thorough cooking than the latter. It has a subtly peppery flavor which makes it excellent for enhancing dishes of all kinds. Can be used fresh or dried. To dry the leaves, you can harvest them just before flowering and thus have a stronger taste.

Medicinal plant with many uses. Motherwort was used in China and ancient Europe to cure, as its name suggests, all kinds of ailments related to the physical and emotional heart. Brother Marie Victorin reports that it was used against asthma. It would also be useful for problems related to the menstrual cycle. The first western mentions of this plant date back to antiquity. Its foliage is dark green and the leaves are serrated and lobed. It flowers from August to September and its many spikes of small pinkish flowers are well appreciated by pollinators.

This variety of spinach is hardy and slow to bolt. Its large dark green triangular leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. The leaves are harvested as needed. It is best to consume the leaves soon after harvesting, otherwise, it supports freezing very well. Successive sowings can be carried out if you prefer to consume the quite young leaves.

Crunchy to the bite; refreshing and sweet, the Oregon Sugar Pod is a productive, compact, non-climbing variety. The many pods (about ten centimeters) are juicy and not fibrous. Very resistant to diseases, you will achieve an excellent harvest without worries.

The Tall Telephone Pea is a rowing variety that can climb up to 1.8 meters when staked. Large pods bearing 8 to 10 peas each will fill your plants for your greatest pleasure. Crunchy and sweet, the pods are an excellent snack to pick up when working in your vegetable patch. Variety dating from 1881.

Old variety, with fine and entirely cut foliage. This chicory with crunchy leaves forms a tight rosette with a well-provided heart, whitening on its own. It can be eaten raw, in salads or cooked. Undemanding, it adapts well to different growing conditions.

This rare variety of corn was shared with us by Steve McCumber, founder of the Haudenosaunee Seed Savings Group. It comes from the Winnebago nation who cultivated it for generations on their lands, today Wisconsin and Illinois. With a beautiful cream color sprinkled with bluish spots, this corn is a flour variety. You can of course try the experiment of eating it fresh, but its taste is less sweet and its texture more fibrous than the varieties that we find on our stalls in summer. On the other hand, it will be excellent for cooking cornbread, polenta or hominy. Old and rare variety, please share!

Large tomato with orange flesh, very productive and tasty. This variety was given to us by René Paquet. With a bright color and smooth skin, it is excellent in sandwiches or cooked. Don't crack. Not to be confused with the ''Big Orange'' from the United States which is ribbed. This tomato arrived in Quebec through the Catalog des Semences du Patrimoine. It would be a member who received it from a certain Norbert Parreira, from France. He then offered it in the catalog and the members exchanged it... until 2005 when it disappeared. It is Mr. René Paquet, a passionate member then decides in 2019 to re-post it and share it with us.

This strain was developed at the Prairie Road Organic Seed Farm in North Dakota, to delight our taste buds. Suitable for warmer climates cold and easy to grow, unless you have greedy birds in your garden!
