Savignac tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)
Tall heirloom tomato, sweet, pink, cold-hardy, productive.
Plant d’environ 2 à 2,5 mètres de haut. Fruits de 10 cm de diamètre pesant entre 180 et 300 grammes. Peau lisse de couleur rose-rouge, chair rosée juteuse et sucrée. Adaptée au climat frais et aux saisons courtes. Découverte dans les années 1930 par un cultivateur de la région de Joliette du nom de Dufresne, elle a par la suite été perfectionnée par le père Armand Savignac des Clercs de Saint-Viateur. Ce religieux adopta un régime de type végétarien pour endiguer ses troubles digestifs chroniques, combinés à une difformité musculaire appelée « la torque », et se mit à cultiver plusieurs variétés dans son jardin, dont la Dufresne.
